War heats up again: US strikes, Iran retaliates

As a series of explosions were heard in the city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, developments that raised tensions in the region took place. While it was stated that the US had carried out new airstrikes against Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that they had responded to the attack.

Speaking to the UK-based news agency Reuters, an unnamed US official said that the operations against Iran targeted a military zone deemed to pose a threat to US forces and commercial maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The official also stated that a number of Iranian drones had been shot down.

EXPLOSION SOUNDS IN BANDAR ABBAS

Iranian state television announced that three consecutive explosions were heard in the eastern part of the city of Bandar Abbas in the south of the country in the early hours of the morning.

Following the explosions, there was activity in the region, and a series of statements came from Iranian authorities.

IRAN: WE HIT A US AIRBASE

In a written statement issued by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, it was stated that the US carried out an airstrike at dawn on a point around Bandar Abbas Airport.

The statement said that the US airbase from which the operation was launched was targeted following the attack.

The Revolutionary Guard included the following statements in their announcement:

“This response is a serious warning so that the enemy knows that its aggression will not go unanswered, and in the event of a recurrence, our response will be more decisive. The responsibility for the consequences of the attack lies with the aggressor.”

The Iranian side did not share information regarding which country the targeted US airbase is located in.

STATEMENT ON ATTACK FROM KUWAIT

A notable statement also came from Kuwait, which is among the countries in the region that host a US airbase.

In a statement made by the Kuwaiti army, it was reported that the country had faced a missile and drone attack. The statement did not provide details on where the targeted point was.

US: “THREATENING ZONE TARGETED”

The US military, in its statement, announced that an airstrike was carried out on a military zone in southern Iran on the grounds that it posed a threat to American forces and commercial maritime traffic in the region.
