Was artificial intelligence used in the US and Israel's attack on Iran?

According to reports in the US press, it is alleged that artificial intelligence technology was used in the joint attacks carried out by the US and Israel against Iran.

As reported by Euronews, the tools of the San Francisco-based AI company Anthropic stand out as the source of this technology. According to information from The Wall Street Journal, US combatant commands around the world may have used the company's AI tools for intelligence analysis, target identification, and creating war scenarios.

TRUMP'S BAN AND THE PENTAGON'S DEBATE

Shortly before the attack, US President Donald Trump announced that he had banned federal agencies from using Anthropic's technologies. Trump had granted the Pentagon a six-month transition period to remove existing AI systems. This decision came after ongoing disputes between Anthropic and the Pentagon. In particular, there were a series of disagreements regarding the use of the company's AI model, Claude, in the military sphere.

STATEMENT FROM ANTHROPIC CEO AMODEI

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had stated that his company would not allow its AI systems to be used in mass surveillance or lethal autonomous weapons systems without human oversight. The Pentagon, however, argues that these technologies can be used for all legal purposes. A major airstrike was launched on Iran just hours after Trump's ban.

WAS AI USED TO IDENTIFY KHAMENEI'S TARGET?

It was reported that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei lost his life in his office in Tehran during the airstrikes carried out by the US and Israel. Unnamed US sources suggested that the AI tool Claude was used to identify targets in the Middle East. These claims raised questions about the role of AI in the assassination of Khamenei. Previously, it had been revealed that Claude was also used in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

PENTAGON AGREEMENT AND CONTRACT DETAILS

Anthropic signed a $200 million contract with the Pentagon for the "development of responsible AI in defense operations." Additionally, the company collaborates with Palantir Technologies to provide AI systems for use in classified defense and intelligence networks. However, after Trump's ban, the Pentagon's classification of Anthropic as a "supply chain risk" could threaten the company's position within the US. Anthropic announced that it would initiate a legal battle against this situation.

OPEN LETTER FROM 430 PEOPLE

During this process, over 430 people, including employees from Google and OpenAI, signed an open letter supporting Anthropic. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in his remarks that he supported the boundaries set by Anthropic. However, shortly after, OpenAI announced that it had reached an agreement with the Pentagon regarding the use of artificial intelligence.

HOW IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE USED IN OPERATIONS?

The US Department of Defense uses Project Maven, an AI program that processes large datasets. This program automatically detects hidden military assets and bunker entrances from satellite and drone imagery. Furthermore, AI algorithms can detect underground voids using synthetic aperture radar and seismic sensors. Such tools are also used for rapid document analysis, processing captured data, and translating and synthesizing monitored communications.
