Washington Post reports: Claims of a ground operation against Iran in US corridors

It has been alleged that the US Department of Defense(Pentagon) is preparing for a potential ground operation in Iran that could last for weeks.

While the US continues its "Operation Epic Fury" against Iran, The Washington Posthas published a report pointing to possible new scenarios on the ground. According to information the newspaper based on government circles, the Pentagon is preparing for the possibility of a ground operation on Iranian soil that could span weeks. Sources state that such a move would mark a "new phase" could bring with it, and that the mutual attacks of recent weeks "significantly more dangerous" could create a situation, they stated.

EMPHASIS ON LIMITED OPERATION

Officials conveyed that the ground option being evaluated does not mean a large-scale invasion. However, it is stated that targeted operations involving special forces could be on the agenda. Yet, the same sources pointed out that such a step could put US soldiers "directly at risk from unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles, ground fire, and improvised explosive devices" noting that it could expose them to these threats.

CRITICAL POINTS AND UNCERTAINTY OF DURATION

It is stated that Kharg Island, a key location for Iran's energy exports, and the coastal lines around the Strait of Hormuz are among the prominent targets in the planning. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt avoided a definitive assessment regarding the claims in question. Leavitt emphasized that the planning has not reached the decision stage, stating, "It is the Pentagon's job to prepare to provide the Commander-in-Chief with the greatest number of options. This does not mean the President has made a decision."
