West Bank crisis between the US administration and Israel

The Israeli government's decision to expand its control in the West Bank has resonated widely across the world. US President Donald Trump approached the idea of fully annexing the occupied territories with reservation and stated that they do not support it. A statement from the White House emphasized that a stable environment in the region is important for Israel's security.

New regulations recently implemented by Israel facilitate land acquisition for settlements considered illegal in the disputed West Bank region. As part of these steps, powers such as construction permits in Hebron were transferred from the Palestinian Authority to the Israeli administration.

It was noted that Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich and Minister of Defense Israel Katz played an active role in the decision. Smotrich stated, "These changes aim to deepen our roots in all parts of the Land of Israel and to destroy the idea of a Palestinian state."

In response to this decision by Israel, numerous countries, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, expressed their reactions through joint statements. In particular, eight Muslim countries issued a declaration condemning the regulations in question, drawing attention to Israel's efforts to establish sovereignty in violation of international law.

Control over Rachel's Tomb near Bethlehem and the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron has now also passed directly to the Israeli administration. Following these developments, the United Kingdom called for the decision to be reversed, while Spain warned that the initiative could increase violence in the region.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pointed out that Israel's decision would cause serious harm in the region. UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a press conference held in New York, "The Secretary-General will continue to advocate for respect for international law. He will continue to push for a two-state solution. But he cannot do it alone. We want others to do the same."
