White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt spoke about the phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin during the daily press briefing. The call is expected to begin in minutes.

Spokesperson Leavitt, recalling that the Ukraine-Russia war began during the term of former President Joe Biden, stated, "The war in Ukraine is at a stalemate," and added, "Putin does not know how to exit the war."

When asked about the possibility of the U.S. imposing sanctions on Russia, Leavitt replied, "Every option, including secondary sanctions, is on the table."

TRUMP-PUTIN CALL

Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social last week that he would hold a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 19 at 10:00 a.m. (17:00 Turkish time). The U.S. President had stated that the Ukraine crisis and trade were on the agenda for the call.

The White House will share statements regarding these calls with the public after they take place.

The U.S. President added that after his call with the Russian leader, he would also speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leaders of NATO countries. The previous phone call between Putin and Trump took place on March 18.

HE WILL ALSO SPEAK WITH ZELENSKYY

According to a report by The Washington Post, President Donald Trump plans to hold separate phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday. According to the report, Trump is continuing his efforts to stop the war and the 'bloodshed' between the two countries through these calls.

Trump has repeatedly claimed he would secure a peace deal and initially promised to stop the fighting in Ukraine before taking the oath of office in January.
