White House issues warning on antisemitism regarding student protests

White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre evaluated the ongoing campus demonstrations in the country during her daily press briefing.

Jean-Pierre said, "The President has always been clear on this; while he states that Americans have the right to demonstrate peacefully, he also says he is against all forms of hate speech and physical threats. We emphasize that antisemitism is dangerous; it is a hate crime, and it has no place on campuses or anywhere else."

Noting that these are difficult times for many due to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and that they are aware of this, the U.S. spokesperson remarked, "We see that this is a difficult process, but Americans must still exercise their freedom of expression within the legal framework."

"A DECISION FOR UNIVERSITIES TO MAKE THEMSELVES"

While avoiding specific comments on the student protests at Columbia University, Jean-Pierre noted that they are referring to both private and public universities and that the administrators of these institutions are the ones making decisions regarding student protests.

"This is a decision for the universities to make themselves; it is not a process for us to get involved in from here," said Jean-Pierre, adding that they will continue to closely monitor the processes regarding campus demonstrations.

While many faculty members, professors, and some politicians support the pro-Palestine protests spreading to universities across the U.S., some university administrations are using methods involving police intervention to end these demonstrations.
