X closes its office in Brazil

A written statement regarding the matter was issued by X's Global Government Affairs department.

The statement noted that last night, Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes "threatened to arrest" X's legal representative in the country if the platform did not comply with censorship orders.

The statement, which conveyed that Moraes carried out these actions through a "secret order," included the following remarks: "Despite our numerous appeals to the Supreme Court being ignored, the Brazilian public not being informed about these orders, and our Brazilian staff having no responsibility or control over whether content is blocked on our platform, Moraes chose to threaten our staff in Brazil instead of respecting due process."

The statement emphasized that the decision to close the office in Brazil "effective immediately" was made to protect the safety of the staff.

The statement, which shared the information that the X service will continue to be available to the people of Brazil, noted that the responsibility for this situation lies "solely" with Moraes.

The statement concluded, "His actions are incompatible with democratic governance. The people of Brazil have a choice to make: democracy or Alexandre de Moraes."

STATEMENT FROM ELON MUSK

In a statement regarding the matter, X owner Elon Musk noted that the decision to close their office in Brazil was difficult, stating, "If we had agreed to Alexandre de Moraes' (illegal) secret censorship and demands to hand over private information, there would be no way for us to explain our actions without feeling ashamed."
