Zelenskyy says 'We cannot survive without US support': 'Putin wants to continue the war'
Following reports that the US is seeking access to Ukraine's mineral resources in exchange for military support, Zelenskyy assessed the course of the war. Noting that US support is essential for them to continue the fight, Zelenskyy stated that they 'would not survive' without it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave an interview at the Munich Security Conference, providing an update on Ukraine's situation in the war. Stating that his country's 'chances of survival without US military support are very low,' Zelenskyy argued that Russia does not intend to end the war, but rather aims to gain time to regroup by securing a ceasefire.
Zelenskyy noted that if the US does not continue its military support, Ukraine could be exposed to another major Russian offensive in the future. The Ukrainian leader argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to come to the negotiating table to end the war, but rather to secure a ceasefire agreement that would allow for the lifting of some international sanctions against Russia and enable the Russian army to recover.

Trump recently announced that US and Russian officials could meet in Saudi Arabia to end the war. Zelenskyy, who announced he would visit Saudi Arabia, emphasized that there is no plan to meet with Russia.
In an interview with NBC News, Zelenskyy noted that it would be very difficult for Ukraine to survive without US military support, both during the current period as it tries to repel the Russian invasion and after the war ends.
Zelenskyy stated the following:
''It will probably be very, very, very difficult, and of course, in all difficult situations, you have a chance. But without US support, our chances of survival are very low. I think it is very important, (US aid) is critical. I don't want to think about fighting against Russia without American support. I don't want to think that we will not be strategic partners.''
Zelenskyy added, 'That is really what he wants. With a ceasefire, he wants to pause, regroup, train, and lift some sanctions.'
