Zelenskyy speaks on the situation at the front: 'We have stopped the Russian advance'

Making statements regarding the state of the war between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the situation at the front is at its best level in the last three months. 

In an interview with France's BFM TV, Zelenskyy suggested that despite Ukraine's ammunition shortages, it has strengthened its strategic position, but warned that the situation could reverse if new supplies do not arrive.

The statement came after Russia captured Avdiivka and subsequently advanced into nearby villages. Last week, the Ukrainian military stated that Russian forces were no longer advancing and that Ukrainian troops had improved their positions. Explaining that Ukraine has shot down Russian warplanes and sunk targets in the Black Sea, Zelenskyy said:

“We have stabilized the situation in the east. We faced some difficulties due to a shortage of artillery shells, an air blockade, Russia's long-range weapons, and the intensity of Russian drone attacks. Russian forces had the advantage of ‘having advanced 20 km towards us’ in terms of long-range weapons (referring to the breakdown of Ukraine's front line). Kyiv's forces have built three lines of fortifications along a front line of more than 1,000 km.”

Zelenskyy also expressed his belief that a Russian missile strike carried out during his and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's visit to Odesa last week showed that Vladimir Putin is ‘detached from the real world.’

Zelenskyy concluded his remarks by saying, “Was he targeting me? That is no longer the point. If you launch a cruise missile attack a few hundred meters away from a European leader, I think you must be truly sick.”
