Zelenskyy strengthens ties with the US: ''We rely on your support and are proud to have you by our side"
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that they rely on the support the US provides to Ukraine and are proud to have them by their side.
According to a statement from the Office of the President of Ukraine, Zelenskyy met with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin, who arrived in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, for official talks. The meeting was also attended by General Christopher Cavoli, Commander of US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).
''WE RELY ON YOUR SUPPORT''
In his speech there, Zelenskyy thanked the US administration and its people for their strong support for Ukraine, stating, "We are extremely grateful to President Joe Biden. It is very important for us that the US is by our side. We rely on your support and are proud to have you by our side."
EMPHASIS ON AMMUNITION
Pointing to the importance of the US delegation's visit to Ukraine ahead of the next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the "Ramstein" format, Zelenskyy underscored that this meeting must strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield. Zelenskyy provided Secretary Austin and the delegation members with detailed information about the situation on the front line, strategic goals, and the priority needs of the Ukrainian army, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining the uninterrupted supply of all required weapons and ammunition by allies.
During the meeting, where President Zelenskyy drew attention to the need to strengthen Ukraine's capabilities ahead of the winter period, issues regarding freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and ensuring the functionality of the alternative grain corridor were discussed.
''ENSURING CONTROL IN THE BLACK SEA IS NECESSARY''
Zelenskyy assessed, "It is very important that we make progress in ensuring control in the Black Sea and in the operation of the alternative humanitarian route. This gives Ukraine the opportunity to remain a guarantor of global security."
Secretary Austin also stated in a post on his social media account that he was honored to meet with President Zelenskyy in Kyiv today to reaffirm the US's unwavering support for Ukraine, adding, "Together with our allies and partners, we will continue to support Ukraine in meeting its immediate battlefield needs and long-term defense requirements."
