Zelenskyy's 'air defense support' complaint at EU summit: He cites Israel as an example

Zelenskyy sent a message to European Union (EU) leaders that the air defense support provided to Israel is an urgent necessity for his country.

Recalling that 14 people were killed in Russia's missile attack on Chernihiv yesterday, Zelenskyy stated the following:

"Unfortunately, we in Ukraine do not have the level of defense that we saw in the Middle East a few days ago.

Thanks to the joint power of the allies, they managed to shoot down almost all the missiles and drones directed at Israel.

We believe that we need to protect Europe from ballistic missiles and 'Shaheds', cruise missiles and bombs, just as in the skies of Israel and other countries in the region.

Our skies and the skies of our neighbors deserve the same security."

In addition to the US and the UK, EU member France also supported the prevention of Iran's air attack on Israel on April 13.

URGENCY UNDERLINED

On the other hand, following the Ukraine topic discussed in the foreign relations session of the EU summit, the relevant section of the final declaration was adopted.

The declaration stated, "The EU strongly condemns Russia's ongoing air and missile attacks against Ukraine's civilians and civilian infrastructure, including those recently targeting the energy sector."

The declaration, which stated that the EU and its member states will continue to send equipment such as generators and power transformers, as well as aid materials for humanitarian and civil protection, noted, "The EU underlines the need to urgently provide air defense to Ukraine and to accelerate and intensify the delivery of all necessary military assistance, including artillery ammunition and missiles."
