Attention car buyers! New rule for vehicle imports announced
According to the communiqué published in the Official Gazette, the scope of the regulation regarding electric vehicle imports introduced last year has been expanded. Accordingly, the requirement to open 20 service centers across 7 regions will now also cover plug-in hybrid automobiles.

The amendment to the communiqué regarding the import of electric vehicles has been published in the Official Gazette.
The Communiqué on the Import of Certain Electric Vehicles has been renamed as the "Communiqué on the Import of Certain Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles."
According to the regulation, the authorized service requirement introduced at the end of last year for the import of electric vehicles has now been extended to plug-in hybrid vehicles as well.
In this context, in order for an import permit to be issued, it will be required that the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) certifies that at least 20 authorized service stations for the after-sales assembly, maintenance, and repair of the vehicles to be imported have been established by the importer itself across 7 geographical regions.
Personnel responsible for the maintenance and repair of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles will be required to hold a qualification certificate exclusively for the maintenance and repair of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, issued by the TSE or the Vocational Qualifications Authority.
For the import of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles not subject to type approval, an exemption/out-of-scope letter issued by the TSE will be required by customs administrations.
