A decision of close interest to those considering purchasing a car has been published in the Official Gazette with the signature of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to the new regulation, the tax base rate for electric vehicles has been changed. Under the amendment, the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) base for vehicles with a motor power not exceeding 160 kW has been increased from 1 million 250 thousand Turkish Lira to 1 million 450 thousand Turkish Lira.

PRICE CUTS EXPECTED ON TWO MODELS

Automotive journalist Emre Özpeynirci stated in a post on his social media account following the decision that he expects price cuts on two models.

In his post on his X account, Özpeynirci noted the following:

“Increasing the tax base limit (pre-tax price) for electric cars in the 10 percent ÖTV bracket from 1 million 250 thousand TL to 1 million 450 thousand TL could bring price cuts to 2 models. The first of these is the 125 kW 4×2 version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is currently in the 40 percent ÖTV bracket. If it drops into the 10 percent ÖTV bracket, its price could fall from 2 million 185 thousand TL to 1 million 718 thousand TL. The other is the 4×2 version of the Mercedes EQA. Its price could also drop from 2 million 350 thousand TL to 1 million 880 thousand TL the moment it enters the 10 percent ÖTV bracket. I have learned that both brands are working on these 2 models. Let's see if these discounts will appear on the price lists on Monday.

Note: There may be upward price adjustments for some models that have recently been suppressing their prices to stay within the 10 percent bracket.”
