Automobile sales increased by 71.7 percent in January 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching 64,041 units, while the light commercial vehicle market grew by 15.1 percent to 15,660 units.

According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 56.6 percent in January 2024. The total market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey reached 79,701 units in January 2024, an increase of 56.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

Automobile sales increased by 71.7 percent in January 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching 64,041 units, while the light commercial vehicle market grew by 15.1 percent to 15,660 units.

Regarding the automobile and light commercial vehicle market in January 2024 compared to ten-year averages; the market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles increased by 131.2 percent compared to the 10-year average for January. The automobile market showed an increase of 147.1 percent compared to the 10-year average for January. The light commercial vehicle market increased by 82.9 percent compared to the 10-year average for January.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE SHARE AT 6.2 PERCENT

By engine type, the automobile market saw gasoline car sales reach 41,212 units with a 64.4 percent share, hybrid car sales reach 10,206 units with a 16 percent share, diesel car sales reach 8,055 units with a 12.6 percent share, electric car sales reach 3,973 units with a 6.2 percent share, and LPG car sales reach 541 units with a 0.8 percent share.

By electric motor power, the electric car market saw sales of electric cars under 160 kW increase by 453.1 percent, accounting for an 84.2 percent share, while sales of electric cars over 160 kW increased by 34.5 percent, accounting for a 15.8 percent share.
