The European Union, as part of its sanctions policy on environmental issues, is preparing to implement a new regulation for electric vehicles. Accordingly, a battery passport requirement will be introduced for electric vehicles imported from outside Europe.

According to the announcement, this rule will cover electric vehicles sold in European Union countries starting from February 2027. Although electric vehicles produce zero carbon emissions during operation, their batteries create environmental waste. Therefore, having a battery passport for the vehicle will reveal details such as the sources and nature of the raw materials used before production, as well as post-production capacity.
