EIA process begins for BYD's Manisa factory
BYD, one of the world's leading automotive companies, has decided to invest approximately 1 billion dollars in Turkey, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process has been initiated for the factory it will build in Manisa.

The agreement for the investment in Turkey between the Chinese firm BYD and the Ministry of Industry and Technology was signed in July under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In this context, the EIA application file for the Passenger Vehicle Production Facility Project, which is planned to be built in Manisa with an investment of approximately 1 billion dollars, has been submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Thus, the EIA process for the project has been initiated.
Until the process is completed, all kinds of information, opinions, questions, and suggestions regarding the project can be sent to the Manisa Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change or the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
200 THOUSAND AUTOMOBILES WILL BE PRODUCED
According to the information in the EIA application file, with the planned investment, BYD Turkey Otomotiv Limited Şirketi will produce 200 thousand rechargeable hybrid and electric automobiles in the organized industrial zone allocated in the Manisa Organized Industrial Zone in the Yunus Emre district of Manisa.
In the area selected as the project site, in addition to the main production stages consisting of press, body welding, paint shop, and assembly lines, factories will also be established for the production of parts such as chassis, frames, engine production (assembly), electric vehicle battery assembly, vehicle bumpers, brake pads, vehicle seats, and vehicle air conditioning.
Other parts required for vehicle production will be supplied from China and Turkey, and the production of rechargeable hybrid and electric passenger vehicles will be carried out in a closed area of 1 million 368 thousand 275.60 square meters, with a base area of 962 thousand 958 square meters.
12 THOUSAND PEOPLE WILL WORK
The project area will also include a test track for testing and trial drives of the produced vehicles and an R&D building for sustainable mobility technologies.
An average of 2 thousand 500 people will work during the construction phase of the planned project, and a total of 12 thousand people will work in 3 shifts during the operation phase.
ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN WILL BE IMPLEMENTED
Within the framework of waste management, source reduction strategies will be implemented at BYD's factory to minimize waste generation.
It is aimed to separate waste according to its type and characteristics and include it in recycling and energy recovery processes.
The company's first priority will be to prevent waste generation in production processes. When this is not possible, waste will be included in reuse and recycling stages to minimize environmental impact. For non-recyclable waste, a landfill method will be used, thus adopting a sustainable management approach.
CONSTRUCTION IS PLANNED TO START IN 2025
The construction phase of the project is planned to start in 2025 after the necessary permit and approval stages are completed and to be finished by the end of the same year or in the first quarter of 2026.
It is expected that the installation of machinery and equipment will begin in the last quarter of 2025 and production will start upon completion by the first quarter of 2026.
