South Korean automotive giants Kia and Genesis have launched a major recall operation in the United States covering thousands of vehicles. It has been reported that loosening of fuel system connection components in the engines could lead to fuel contact with hot surfaces, potentially causing a fire.
According to a report published by the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the root of the problem lies in the connection points of the metal pipes that connect the engine's fuel rails. Loosening of these parts can lead to fuel leaks over time, bringing with it a potential risk of ignition.
While it has been announced that a total of 235,792 vehicles across the US could be affected by the defect, more than 141,000 units of the Carnival model have been placed in the risk group on the Kia side. For Genesis users, many models from the G70 to the G90 are being examined. While there have been no reports of accidents or injuries so far, both manufacturers are taking precautionary measures against potential dangers.
SERVICE NOTIFICATIONS STARTING SOON
According to the prepared recall plan, Kia vehicle owners will be notified at the beginning of June. For Genesis brand models, official notifications are expected to be sent about a week later. It was stated that vehicle owners can apply to the nearest authorized service centers to have the necessary inspection and repair procedures performed free of charge.
Hyundai Motor Group, to which Kia and Genesis belong, has frequently been in the news regarding recall operations in recent years. The company had also called over 700,000 vehicles to service centers for comprehensive inspections in the first nine months of 2025.
Such developments in the automotive sector once again highlight how important safety is for vehicle owners. It is recommended that vehicle owners take the notifications into account and contact expert service centers as soon as possible.
