Volkswagen issues recall for millions of vehicles! Here is the reason for the risk

The Volkswagen Group has launched a wide-ranging global recall process due to a safety risk identified in the steering system. It was reported that the recall covers 2 million 159 thousand 54 Volkswagen-branded vehicles and 696 thousand 547 Audi vehicles, bringing the total number to approximately 2.86 million.

The issue is said to stem from corrosion that can occur on a connection bolt that secures the steering system. It is stated that corrosion on the part can lead to the bolt breaking over time, which could affect the connection between the steering system and the wheels.

In the worst-case scenario, there is a risk of the driver losing steering control. It was noted that there have been no reports of injuries or property damage associated with this defect so far, and that the recall is being conducted to prevent potential accidents.

WHICH MODELS ARE AFFECTED?

Volkswagen models covered by the recall include the Golf, Golf Variant, Tiguan, Touran, and Caddy. On the Audi side, it was reported that the Q3 model is affected by the process. While the production periods of the affected vehicles vary by model, it was stated that the scope extends back to 2013 for some models, while some vehicles were produced up to the 2024 model year.

There is also information suggesting that some Seat and Skoda models using the same technical infrastructure may be affected by the process. On the Seat side, it is stated that approximately 224 thousand vehicles, including the Ateca and Tarraco models, are within the scope of the recall. With the inclusion of these vehicles, it is stated that the total number across the Volkswagen Group could exceed 2.86 million.

During the service process, the steering connection parts of the vehicles at risk will be inspected; it is expected that the problematic parts will be replaced where necessary. The scope of the recall by country may vary based on criteria such as production date, model, and the steering system used.

Models such as the Golf, Tiguan, Caddy, and Audi Q3 are also sold in Turkey. However, the global recall announcement does not by itself indicate how many vehicles are affected in Turkey. Vehicle owners need to check the scope of the campaign through authorized services using their chassis number.
