The winter tire mandate, which began on December 1 in previous years, has been moved forward this year and will be in effect starting November 15, with the application continuing until April 15, 2026. With this change, drivers are expected to prepare for poor weather conditions earlier. Especially in regions where winter is severe, vehicles without winter tires will not be allowed to travel in traffic.

To ensure drivers are not caught unprepared for cold weather conditions, inspections will be even stricter this year. Within the scope of the application, teams will carefully check whether all vehicles, especially commercial ones, have winter tires.

Experts emphasize that winter tires provide better road grip compared to summer tires, especially at temperatures below 7 degrees, and therefore significantly increase driving safety. Using winter tires on wet, snowy, and muddy surfaces plays an important role in preventing accidents.

With the new regulation, a 5,856 TL administrative fine will be imposed on commercial vehicle drivers who do not install winter tires for the year 2026. Drivers who pay within the first 15 days will be able to benefit from a legal discount and pay approximately 4,392 TL. These inspections will be carried out through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Directorate of Security, and the Gendarmerie General Command.

Authorities also emphasize that the production date should be checked when purchasing tires. Tires that have been on shelves for a long time, even if they have never been used, can lose their properties and cause balance problems in the vehicle. For this reason, drivers are advised to choose new tires produced under appropriate conditions.

The winter tire application is more than just a legal requirement; it is of vital importance for the safety of drivers and passengers. Making the necessary changes before the air temperature drops will both support safe driving and prevent potential accidents.
