All eyes in the political agenda are turned to the meeting between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.
While no official statement has been made yet regarding the location and time of the critical summit, Okan Müderrisoğlu, one of the columnists for the Sabah newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, has brought a striking claim to the agenda.
In his column titled "Political neighborhoods are active," Müderrisoğlu suggested that the meeting in question has caused discomfort within the AKP.
Stating that 'the message given by the voters' in the March 31 Local Elections 'is currently accumulating energy around the CHP,' Müderrisoğlu assessed that, "But the issue of how this energy will be used—it seems—is serious enough not to be left to the classic CHP management!"
In his article, Müderrisoğlu used the expressions, "There are not a few people within the AK Party base who think that granting an appointment to Özel will add extra political value to him and that he will set the agenda through the file he will present to the President, meaning he will gain a relative advantage."
The relevant part of Müderrisoğlu's article is as follows;
"If we look at both sides of the coin... We are indeed faced with interesting pictures!
President Tayyip Erdoğan's decision to engage with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, whom he does not even see as being of the same caliber as Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, is being subjected to different interpretations and even brings some concerns with it. There are not a few people within the AK Party base who think that granting an appointment to Özel will add extra political value to him and that he will set the agenda through the file he will present to the President, meaning he will gain a relative advantage!"
