AKP's Istanbul plan for DEM Party revealed! 'An unspoken bargain...'

As the local elections approach, political parties continue their efforts to determine their candidates.

While there is great anticipation regarding whether the DEM Party will field a candidate in Istanbul, one of the cities most watched in this critical election, the statement by Başak Demirtaş, wife of Selahattin Demirtaş, saying "If the people want it, our party deems it appropriate, and we believe it will pave the way for democracy and social peace, we could consider it," has stirred the political corridors.

Journalist Deniz Zeyrek put forward a striking claim in his article published in Sözcü.

Evaluating the statements made by AKP candidate Murat Kurum at the Haliç Congress Center, Zeyrek wrote that the ruling party has launched an intense propaganda campaign to ensure the DEM Party fields a candidate in Istanbul.

Zeyrek's article is as follows;

"If you ask me 'What did you think of Kurum' after the introduction meeting, my answer would be:

'It is the government that is the candidate, not Kurum!'

The most important reason for this thought is that he listed promises more like a member of the Erdoğan cabinet than a local administrator, or even himself.

And naturally, the heavily visible presence of Erdoğan, in whose shadow he remains.

Meanwhile, the ruling party must have realized that it will not get the result it expects from Kurum, as it has launched an intense propaganda campaign to ensure the DEM Party fields a candidate in Istanbul.

On one hand, they are trying to prevent a potential CHP-DEM Party relationship by associating it with the PKK and terrorism.

On the other hand, they are trying to conduct an unspoken bargain with the DEM Party to ensure they field a candidate in Istanbul.

As you can see, a victory in Istanbul with Kurum seems difficult for the ruling camp; hope is somewhat pinned on a DEM Party candidate."
