President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will announce his party's district mayoral candidates for Ankara today. However, the Ankara candidates were leaked to the press before Erdoğan's announcement. Mamak Mayor Murat Köse was left off the list.

According to a report by the Sözcü newspaper, Köse's poor performance in polls and the fact that the Nation Alliance's votes surpassed the People's Alliance in this district during the 2023 elections led the AKP to make a change in "actors." Asım Balcı has been brought in to fill the candidacy left vacant by Köse.
