Behind the scenes: IYI Party may adopt a different stance on the new constitution

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on the IYI Party to join the People's Alliance as the local elections approach.

"Our door is open to everyone who wants to join. The IYI Party could also be included," said Erdoğan, adding, "The others are already clear in the People's Alliance. The stronger the participation, the more beneficial it will be for our country's interests."

Sözcü columnist Aytunç Erkin, in his column today titled "Kılıçdaroğlu is comfortable, pressure on the IYI Party," recalled President Erdoğan's 'alliance' call and shared what is being discussed behind the scenes.

Stating that a high-level IYI Party member he spoke with only commented, "He wants to pressure us," Erkin noted the following:

"This 'he wants to pressure us' assessment is important. Because; it is among the topics being discussed that the IYI Party, which announced the day before that it would vote 'yes' on the Iraq-Syria motion, may also adopt a different stance than the CHP regarding the new constitution."

Erkin continued by stating, "We will understand better in the coming days how the 'pressure' is coming from the People's Alliance onto the IYI Party, which positions itself in the center and has 'shelved' its alliance with the CHP for now."
