Claim that a model from 3 countries will be implemented! Behind the scenes: Will stray animals be euthanized?

Gazete Pencere columnist Nuray Babacan noted that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received information from ministers and bureaucrats regarding stray dogs. 

The relevant section from Babacan's article is as follows: 

"THIS SITUATION HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND"

"A crisis has emerged between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization due to high costs. Neither ministry wants to take this on alone. Municipalities, on the other hand, argue that it is not possible to carry this out with their current budget capabilities. President Erdoğan summoned all relevant ministers and bureaucrats and asked why no steps had been taken so far. It was reported that the President reacted by saying, 'This situation has gotten out of hand. What are we waiting for? Get it done as soon as possible.'"

3 COUNTRIES TO BE TAKEN AS EXAMPLES

In the presentation made at the meeting, it was stated that it is not possible to spay/neuter all stray dogs at once and that there are not enough shelters for this. It was noted that difficulties are being experienced due to the very high costs. Some expressed that releasing spayed/neutered dogs back onto the streets has drawbacks and that they would continue to be a problem in terms of aggression. It was stated that the most accurate path is to carry out work in stages according to the capacity of shelters in each province. The proposal was brought to the agenda to carry out spaying/neutering and vaccination in phases, to give a certain period for the adoption of the dogs, and to euthanize the animals that are not adopted at the end of this period. It was reported that global examples were examined during the studies and that the systems in England, Italy, and Portugal would be taken as a basis."
