Claim that Erdoğan will meet with CBRT Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan: Will he ask for her resignation?

Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan and allegations regarding her family continue to occupy the public agenda. Last week, it was alleged that CBRT Governor Erkan's father, Erol Erkan, had dismissed a bank employee and had the Central Bank's social facility closed and its staff assigned to his family's service.

According to Nuray Babacan from Gazete Pencere, President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan will meet with Hafize Gaye Erkan for the first time following the events that have taken place.

"EXPECTED TO DISCUSS IN DETAIL"

"For someone who has worked as a bank executive abroad for years to bring the 'cronyism' business style, often seen in the AKP's provincial management, under the roof of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye is, I believe, a first in Turkish history. The opportunities Hafize Gaye Erkan provided to her father, the role the father carved out for himself, his interference with employees, and even his use of institutional vehicles and security details are still being recounted. All the news stories made or commissioned via social media to rectify the situation actually amount to an 'admission' of the event...

Another allegation is that Erkan left in the middle of a Monetary Policy Committee meeting, using her child as an excuse. Everyone can guess the consequences of the decisions made in these meetings being known in advance... There are those who take the matter to such an advantage... We are more interested in the repercussions of the event in AKP politics. Erkan is expected to discuss this issue in detail, first with the senior economic management and then with President Erdoğan, at the latest by tomorrow.

3 OPTIONS ON THE TABLE

As for the options within the AKP...

It is being discussed that the President might ask for Erkan's resignation to avoid harming the economic management, and that the President would process it,

That the President might wait for a while instead of making an immediate decision and carry out the change in duty later,

And as the least likely option, that she might be allowed to remain in her position after taking corrective actions for the mistakes she made.

DENIAL OF REPORTS REGARDING A MEETING

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation denied the claim in question in a statement.

There is no meeting scheduled between our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan in his program for tomorrow."
