Here is the figure being discussed! Claims of a new pension hike also left until after the elections

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had announced the increase with the words: "We are raising the 6-month increase rate for our SSK and Bağ-Kur pensioners to 49.25 percent as of January 2024. Thus, we are ensuring that all our pensioners receive the same rate of increase this year." 

While pensioners described the raise as a "poverty hike," it was claimed that new regulations would be introduced following the "Year of the Pensioner" rhetoric from President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Addressing the issue, Kısa Dalga columnist Mehmet Çetingüleç said the following:

"There is talk that the improvement for those receiving low pensions will not be limited to 33 percent, and that the lowest pension will be raised to between 14,000 and 17,000 liras before the elections.

Taking pensioners, who are already in such a dire situation, to the elections with a 10,000 lira salary is not a very rational strategy for the Government either.

Namık Tan, an expert from the Turkey Pensioners Association, also says that expectations did not end with raising the hike rate to 49 percent.

According to Tan, who says, "Pensioners have never experienced such deprivation in any period," another flat-rate raise could be implemented.

"Because," says Namık Tan, "THE MONEY GIVEN TO PENSIONERS IS NO LONGER A SALARY, IT HAS TURNED INTO SOCIAL ASSISTANCE!..."

So, what if there is an equalization adjustment?

Namık Tan says that there could be an increase of between 1,000 and 1,500 liras in the salaries of those who retired after 2000."
