People's Alliance presses the button for local elections: First target is metropolitan municipalities

While alliance discussions continue on the opposition front for the local elections, the People's Alliance has pressed the button for cooperation. While the primary goal is 'all metropolitan mayoralties, especially the 11 metropolitan municipalities held by the CHP,' it is stated that, unlike the 2019 elections, both parties will 'enter the elections in cooperation in every province, district, and town' this time.

In the AKP, the delegation that will conduct cooperation talks with the MHP has been determined. The AKP delegation includes Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala, AKP Election Affairs Chairman Ali İhsan Yavuz, and AKP Headquarters Local Governments Chairman Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz.

In the MHP, it is stated that while Chairman Devlet Bahçeli has not yet made an appointment, he will determine a delegation "based on the principle of reciprocity" in response to the names in the AKP delegation. It is also noted that the delegations of both parties will come together next week to begin talks.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, the primary goal of both parties is "all metropolitan mayoralties, especially the 11 metropolitan municipalities held by the CHP." However, it is stated that, unlike the 2019 elections, both parties will "enter the elections in cooperation in every province, district, and town" this time. It is stated that the first issue to be put on the table during the delegations' meetings will be "the mistakes made in the 2019 local elections." After the two parties identify these mistakes together, a roadmap for the 2024 local elections will be determined. In this context, it is pointed out that metropolitan mayoral candidates will be determined first.

THE GOAL IS TO KEEP IT ON THE AGENDA

Both the AKP and the MHP had conducted internal studies regarding the local elections. In these studies, "both parties identified where they made mistakes in the 2019 elections." It is noted that after evaluating these findings, "priority will be given to the main goal" underlined by both party leaders. The main goal of the AKP and MHP in the 2024 elections is "to win all 30 metropolitan municipalities for the People's Alliance." It is stated that after the talks conducted by both party delegations, the metropolitan mayoral candidates to be nominated within the scope of the alliance in the 30 metropolitan cities will be announced to the public first. It is stated that the purpose of this is "to keep the candidate on the public agenda for longer."
