A striking behind-the-scenes claim: Was Hafize Gaye Erkan dismissed due to fears of new revelations?
A striking behind-the-scenes claim has been shared regarding former Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan, who resigned via a statement on X on Friday. It was alleged that Erkan's resignation was prompted by the risk of new revelations emerging from within the bank.

10 Haber columnist Barış Soydan has penned a behind-the-scenes piece regarding the removal of Hafize Gaye Erkan from her post.
He stated that President and AKP Chairman Tayyip Erdoğan's decision to remove Erkan was driven by concerns over the possibility of new revelations coming from within the bank.
"IT WAS GOING TO BE RE-EVALUATED AFTER THE LOCAL ELECTIONS"
Conveying that Erdoğan was uncomfortable with the allegations regarding Hafize Gaye Erkan and the public debate, Soydan stated the following in his article:
"There were two possibilities: One, if the allegations were true and they were not seen and intervened in on time, this was a management error. Two, if the allegations were false and this campaign could still not be stopped, there was a management problem in the same way.
Ultimately, he intervened personally to at least prevent the allegations from deepening and the debates from growing, and made a statement supporting Erkan. In particular, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and some close figures had shared with Erdoğan the thought that a change before the election could have negative consequences. Probably, Erkan was going to be given a serious warning, her family's ties to the bank were going to be severed, and the situation was going to be re-evaluated after the local elections.
"FEAR OF NEW REVELATIONS!"
This plan began to falter before long. First, concerns had arisen that the allegations could continue and that new revelations (and even recordings) could emerge from within the bank. The other two issues were Hafize Gaye Erkan extending her trip to the US and avoiding open communication with the economic management by failing to provide a satisfactory explanation. This created the fear that Erkan would make sudden decisions and/or leave her post at an inopportune time. Upon this, a change of governor at the Central Bank was brought to the agenda without waiting for the election to end."
