'The path to a decision could be opened by a hair's breadth': AKP's 3-party plan for Erdoğan's re-nomination!

Gazete Pencere columnist Nuray Babacan wrote in her column today about the discussions taking place within AKP circles regarding the potential re-nomination of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Emphasizing that the AKP would need to persuade İYİ Party, HÜDA-PAR, and YRP, as well as secure support from 1 independent deputy, to reach the number of 360, Babacan stated the following:

"According to the formula being discussed within the party to pave the way for Erdoğan's re-nomination, a proposal will be submitted for the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to decide on renewing elections one year before the elections scheduled for May 2028. Since the Constitution requires the support of 360 deputies for the TBMM to make an election decision, conversations are being held about 'who can provide support.' The number of seats held by the People's Alliance is not enough to pass this decision. However, party officials comment, 'We believe the opposition will also provide support if the renewal of elections comes to the agenda. They cannot run from an election.'

3 PARTIES + INDEPENDENT

Party members state that they could submit a joint proposal to the TBMM together with the MHP to reach a decision on renewing elections. The opposition is not getting involved in this matter as of today. According to the current situation, the total number of seats held by the AKP and MHP is 313. If the İYİ Party provides support, this number reaches 351. HÜDA-PAR has 4 seats, and the YRP has 4 seats. If these parties also act together, the number becomes 359. With the support of some independent deputies, the path for the TBMM to make an early election decision could be opened by a hair's breadth. These are the calculations for now..."
