What will Erdoğan and Biden discuss? There are 3 items on the table

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi announced that he expects a phone call between President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Joe Biden within a few days.

"Of course, the main agenda item for the two leaders' conversation will be Gaza. Both the establishment of a permanent ceasefire and the post-war status of Gaza will be addressed," said Selvi, who shared the following in his column:

"However, there are also the issues of the sale of F-16s and Sweden's NATO membership between Turkey and the U.S.

During the Contact Group's visit to the U.S., they held a meeting with Hakan Fidan at Blinken's request. One of the agenda items in the two ministers' meeting was the sale of F-16s, and the other was Sweden's full membership in NATO.

For some time, the U.S. side has been sending the message that if Turkey passes Sweden's membership through Parliament, Congress could take action regarding the sale of F-16s. This approach might seem positive, but is it sufficient?

"WE ALSO HAVE A PARLIAMENT"

1- There have been situations where the U.S. gave such promises and later said, 'What can we do, it didn't pass through Congress.'

2- There are problems stemming from the system. A single member in Congress can block the sale of F-16s for a long time.

Therefore, we are cautious. The response given to the U.S. is, 'Our President has submitted it to Parliament within the framework of the consensus reached at the Vilnius Summit. What happens after this is left to the discretion of Parliament.'

President Erdoğan had made his stance clear by saying, 'If they have a Congress, we also have a Parliament.'"
