US-based entertainment giant Walt Disney has terminated the employment of many staff members working in areas such as film and television marketing, broadcast promotion, casting, and content development as part of a restructuring strategy implemented worldwide.
7 THOUSAND PEOPLE WERE LAID OFF
In 2023, Disney laid off approximately 7 thousand employees in line with its goal of reducing costs. In March 2023, another downsizing occurred, affecting 200 people, which covered 6 percent of the employees within the ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks.
In the quarterly report announced in May, it was stated that Disney+ exceeded Wall Street expectations thanks to its strong performance alongside theme parks. However, although Disney shares showed a 2 percent increase following this positive report, these gains were not permanent, and the stock value closed at 112.62 dollars with a 0.3 percent decline on the last trading day.
