World-renowned automotive and aerospace giant Rolls-Royce has managed to escape the financial bottleneck it faced in recent years. Under the leadership of Turkish CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç, who took the helm in 2023, radical changes in management and strategy have propelled Rolls-Royce to the top of the stock market. The company's share value has increased approximately twelve-fold during Erginbilgiç's tenure, while its market capitalization has reached 97 billion pounds.
When Erginbilgiç was appointed, the company's financial structure was a source of serious concern. Due to Rolls-Royce's debt burden and performance issues, shares were trading below 1 pound. The initial 8.3 million share package granted to the CEO carried significant risk at the time. However, the restructuring plan implemented quickly gained the trust of investors.
Currently, Rolls-Royce shares have reached the 11.49 pound level. With this development, the total bonus Tufan Erginbilgiç will receive has risen to 106 million pounds. The bonus payment will be made in two stages in 2027 and 2028.
When Erginbilgiç took over, Rolls-Royce was facing a series of problems, particularly in the civil aviation sector, due to the contraction in demand caused by the pandemic, engine repair costs, and the impact of past corruption cases. The new CEO reshaped the management team and adopted a more competitive and robust corporate culture within the firm. Efficiency in pricing and production in civil aviation was prioritized.
This comprehensive transformation, aided by the recovery in global air travel and the increase in defense spending, led to a surge in demand across Rolls-Royce's areas of operation. The company increased its order volume in many fields, from nuclear submarines to military engines, and became one of the fastest-growing groups in the FTSE 100 index.
Tufan Erginbilgiç stated that he is not content with current successes alone and that the company will also focus on civil nuclear energy projects. With small modular reactor (SMR) technologies developed for the Royal Navy and planned for commercialization, Rolls-Royce aims to become the UK's most valuable public company. Erginbilgiç emphasized that there is strong support for this field from the Czech Republic as well as the British government.
The company plans to expand into a global market worth trillions of dollars in the coming decades. In line with this vision, Rolls-Royce has achieved a major transformation, leaving behind giants such as BP, BAE Systems, Barclays, and Rio Tinto.
