1800-year-old bust discovered in ancient city in Düzce
A portrait bust, believed to belong to M. Iulius Proklos, who commissioned the stage building of the ancient theater, has been found during ongoing excavations at the Prusias ad Hypium Ancient City in the Konuralp region of Düzce.

According to a statement from the Düzce Municipality, archaeological work in the region, which dates back to the 3rd century BC, has been ongoing since 2019 under the direction of the Konuralp Museum Directorate with the permission of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums and the support of the municipality.
During the excavations, an 1800-year-old portrait bust, thought to belong to M. Iulius Proklos, who commissioned the theater's stage building, was discovered.
The portrait bust, which is approximately 56 centimeters high and 50 centimeters wide and was found during excavations in front of the western entrances of the theater, draws attention with its curly and ringlet hairstyle.
The bust reflects the detailed style of the Antonine period, as each lock of hair curls into itself differently from the others. Furthermore, the bust depicts a bearded and mustachioed face, with a draped piece of fabric covering the shoulder area.
It is believed that the bust may belong to M. Iulius Proklos, who served as an imperial priest during the reign of Emperor Hadrian and also commissioned the theater's stage building.
