1st Osmangazi Book Fair opens its doors

Prepared in collaboration with the Osmangazi Municipality and the Publishers Cooperative, the fair opened its doors today with the slogan "The Heart of Literature, Osmangazi." The fair, which will last for nine days, will bring together authors, publishing houses, readers, music, words, and ideas. From talks to book signing sessions, musical events to workshops, and children's programs to literary discussions, a wide variety of content will bring an atmosphere of literature to Bursa for nine days.

A PROGRAM FULL OF AUTHORS

The fair will begin on Saturday, November 1, with a musical talk by Tuna Kiremitçi and will continue with a book signing ceremony by Saygı Öztürk. On the same day, Sinan Meydan will give a talk on "Understanding Atatürk," Nermin Bezmen on "A Novelist's Dreams and Realities," and Serhan Asker on "The Earthquake and What Was Experienced." On the second day of the fair, Sunday, November 2, Murat Menteş will discuss "The Laws of the Novel," Gaye Boralıoğlu "Literature and Truth," and Çiğdem Toker and Filiz Gazi will present "A Panorama of Turkey"; on Monday, November 3, Ekrem Hayri Peker will touch upon the subject of "Bursa in the Mirror of History." Talks by Erdem Seçmen on "Write Your Own Stories," Melisa Kesmez on "Bloomings: A Coming-of-Age Story," and Osman Çaklı and Sadık Güleç on "New Generation Gangs: Two Journalists Tell Their Story" will meet with participants on Tuesday, November 4. 

TALK SCHEDULE

In addition, on Wednesday, November 5, Aylin Balboa and Barış İnce will discuss "New Generation Literature," and İsmail Güzelsoy will cover "The Psychology of Reading," while journalist Özlem Gürses will host LÖDER President Prof. Dr. Adalet Meral Güneş for Leukemia Week. On Thursday, November 6, Kezban Küçük will speak on "Understanding and Speed Reading for Children," Moriwaki Yoshinori on "Turkey and the Reality of Earthquakes," and İhsan Eliaçık on "Social Islam"; on Friday, November 7, Şükrü Erbaş will speak on "A Look at the Sources of Poetry: I Am My Mother's Syllable," Latife Tekin on "From Dear Shameless Death to the Timeless," and Mine Söğüt and Ayşen Şahin on "Free Thought and Intellectual Labor.".

The Osmangazi Book Fair will conclude on Saturday, November 8, with talks by Irmak Zileli on "A Curious Look at the Darkness Within Us Through the Novel 'Now She Was Here'," Dr. Meral Saklayan on "The Literature of Yaşar Kemal," Emre Kongar on "The Republic and Atatürk in Terms of the Sociology of Revolution," and Tarık Tufan on "Literature is Life and Death"; and on Sunday, November 9, with Ezgin Kılıç on "The Book's Journey to the Heart," İnci Bakan Kıraç on "Organic Painting Workshop," and Buket Uzuner on "The 50th Year in Turkish Literature."

AN INVITATION TO THE PEOPLE OF BURSA

Stating that they see the Osmangazi Book Fair as one of the most valuable cultural legacies they will leave to the future, Mayor Erkan Aydın said, "We see carrying the power of literature and books to future generations as one of our most important duties. Because books are not just information, but also the transmission of thought, culture, and consciousness. The Osmangazi Book Fair, which we have brought to life with this understanding, aims to spread the culture of reading and bring authors and readers together under the same roof. Throughout our fair, more than 80 publishing houses, 60 authors, 40 talks, and thousands of books will be with our readers. At the same time, various workshops will be held for our children. This fair, which we set out with the slogan 'The Heart of Literature, Osmangazi,' is the first step. In the coming years, we will continue with different themes, without breaking away from the philosophy of Osmangazi. I invite all the people of Bursa to our fair," he said.
