An invitation to the stage of Republican women

“I Am Anatolia,” written by Güngör Dilmen, which brings together thousands of years of women's history in Anatolia in a single body, will be restaged with a new interpretation by Altkat Sanat.

Altkat Sanat's new season production, with its narrative extending from mythology to the Republic, serves as a powerful tribute to the women of these lands. In the play, dozens of women—from Cybele to Puduhepa, from Nilüfer Hatun to the wife of Nasreddin Hodja, from Kara Fatma to Bahriye Üçok and Türkan Saylan—are brought back to life in the body of a single actor.

In this version of the play, the enlightened and combative women of the Republic are particularly at the forefront: the physical memory of the war fought on the front lines with Kara Fatma, the determination, reason, and intellectual struggle with Bahriye Üçok, and a life dedicated to education, science, and modernity with Türkan Saylan

All of them breathe again on stage as women who still maintain their light against the darkness of today.

Altkat Sanat makes the following statement regarding the play: “This play is not just a biography or a rebellion. This play is the female memory of Anatolia. On stage, an actor summons the women of thousands of years and tells the audience only one thing: Women have always existed in this land… and they will always exist.”
