Atatürk Museum Pavilion to open for visitors on October 29

The Atatürk Museum Pavilion will open its doors to visitors on October 29.

Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who arrived in Ankara on December 27, 1919, first used the Agricultural School and later the Station Master's Pavilion as both a residence and a workspace.

However, as these areas proved insufficient for Mustafa Kemal Pasha's work and rest, a search for a suitable residence began. In order to ensure the Pasha lived in a quieter and more peaceful environment, the Ankara Municipality gifted him the Çankaya Pavilion, which was being used as a vineyard house, on May 30, 1921.

THE HISTORIC SPEECH TOOK PLACE IN THAT HOUSE

Located in a position overlooking Ankara and nestled among trees, the Pavilion also witnessed important events during the War of Independence and the early years of the Republic. Meeting with his close staff for dinner on October 28, 1923, Mustafa Kemal made the historic speech signifying the founding of the Republic at the Çankaya Pavilion, saying, "Gentlemen, tomorrow we will proclaim the Republic."

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha wrote the Nutuk (The Speech), which begins with the words "I landed in Samsun on the 19th day of May 1919" and recounts those years of struggle leading to the Republic and independence, in his study here.

The pavilion, where Atatürk spent a part of his life, also houses the Çankaya Table where state affairs were discussed, the Ambassador Reception Hall, Zübeyde Hanım's bedroom, the hall where he played billiards with İsmet Pasha, and study rooms.

CAN BE VISITED BETWEEN 13:00-17:00

The area where the pavilion is located, which many presidents also used as a residence, and its surroundings eventually transformed into the Çankaya Pavilion complex with its various facilities.

The Çankaya Pavilion, which witnessed historical events, was opened to visitors in 1950 under the name "Atatürk Museum Pavilion."

The pavilion, which underwent maintenance and repairs several times over time to prevent the wear and tear of its structure and the items inside, entered restoration in June 2021.

Having completed its renovations, the Atatürk Museum Pavilion will open its doors to visitors again on October 29. Visitors will be able to tour the pavilion between 13:00 and 17:00.
