Author and poet Afşar Timuçin has passed away in Istanbul at the age of 85.
In a statement regarding Timuçin's death on its social media account, Hayal Yayınları said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear elder, author, poet, translator, and philosopher Afşar Timuçin, with whom we had the opportunity to work. We wish patience to his family and loved ones."
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED
According to information received from Bulut Yayınları, Timuçin, known for his works in short story, poetry, and novel genres such as "Böyle Söylenmeli Bizim Türkümüz" (This Is How Our Folk Song Should Be Sung), "Gece Gelen Eski Dost" (The Old Friend Who Came at Night), and "Denizli Pencere" (Denizli Window), will be laid to rest in the family cemetery in Zincirlikuyu following the funeral prayer to be held in Ataköy on Sunday, July 28.
WHO IS AFŞAR TİMUÇİN?
The master writer, a recipient of the PEN poetry award, was born in Manisa in 1939. Afşar Timuçin began his higher education in the Department of French Language and Literature at Istanbul University and went to Canada in 1967 to complete his studies.
Timuçin completed his undergraduate degree in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Montreal in 1967 and his doctorate at Istanbul University in 1970. He taught French between 1968 and 1970. The author, who became an associate professor in 1981 and a professor in 1992, served as the head of the Philosophy Department at Kocaeli University for a period.
Timuçin, who retired from Kocaeli University in 2006, had his poems published in magazines such as Ataç, Dönem, Milliyet Sanat, Papirüs, Soyut, Yazko, Yelken, Yeni Edebiyat, Yeni Ufuklar, and Varlık.
