Cem Karaca's wife, İlkim Karaca, had filed a lawsuit to prevent the production of the film 'Cem Karaca's Tears,' which is being brought to the big screen by director Yüksel Aksu.
COURT REJECTS REQUEST
The court rejected the request for an injunction aimed at preventing the release of all visual and audio recordings related to the film, including videos, trailers, photographs, and film footage.
The film, which features Cem Karaca's son Emrah Karaca as a consultant, will depict the period of the artist's life from his exile in Germany until his return to Turkey.
The film is expected to be released on January 26, 2024.
'IT IS A GOOD THING HE DID NOT WITNESS THIS DISLOYALTY'
Cem Karaca's wife, İlkim Karaca, made the following statement to Arif Hür from 12punto:
"I have a sensitivity regarding the accurate portrayal of events. Furthermore, I was not asked for permission for this film. Being ignored as his wife in an important film project about Cem's life has saddened me. This situation would have also deeply wounded Cem. It is a good thing he did not witness this disloyalty."
'I FIND IT DISRESPECTFUL AND DISLOYAL'
Responding to the question, "Is it ethical to make a film about a person after their passing?" Karaca said, "If it is done by obtaining permission from the legal heirs of the deceased, why not? However, I do not find an approach that says, 'I did it and it is done, I do not recognize the laws, the legal system, or the legal heirs of the deceased' without obtaining permission to be correct. In fact, I find such an approach disrespectful and disloyal," she said.
