Debate over set conditions following the death of Serhat Kılıç: Harsh statement from Sine-Sen

Following the death of 51-year-old actor Serhat Kılıç, who was found dead in his home in Kağıthane, Istanbul, working conditions on television sets and allegations of negligence have once again come to the fore.

In her statement to the police, Kılıç's girlfriend, Özlem E., stated that the actor was undergoing treatment for lymphoma and suffering from severe cervical disc herniation. According to the statement, Kılıç was forced to go to the set of the series "Teşkilat," which airs on TRT 1, despite having a medical report.

He called me in a tearful voice, saying he had been kicked off the set, that he was very upset, that no matter what he did, his pain would not go away, and that he did not want to see anyone because he was distressed.

Following these allegations, the Cinema Workers' Union (Sine-Sen), affiliated with DİSK, issued a written statement. The union announced that they would follow up on the claims that Kılıç was forced to work despite his health problems.

Sets are not slave camps; they are spaces for artistic production. We will not remain silent against this system that sacrifices human life for ratings and profit.

In its statement, Sine-Sen said, "We will continue our legal struggle to the end to ensure that the responsible authorities and producers are held accountable before the law." The union also issued a call to those who have information regarding the matter.

TRT and the production company TIMS&B Productions, which are at the center of the allegations, have not yet made a statement regarding the process.
