Disney+ has surprised fans with its decision to cancel the critically acclaimed series American Born Chinese after just one season. The show was a fantasy action series starring Everything Everywhere All at Once actors Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu, alongside Ben Wang. The story followed high school student Jin as he found himself caught in the middle of a battle between Chinese mythological gods.

According to Variety, despite the series currently holding a 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Disney+ canceled the show on the grounds that viewership numbers were insufficient for a second season. A source with knowledge of the situation stated that while Disney+ appreciated the show, the viewership for a second season was below expectations. It was reported that the producers now plan to shop the series to other networks and streamers.
