Singer Emir Can İğrek has established a library at a school in the Gürpınar district of Van to keep the memory of his close friend, musician Onur Can Özcan, who lost his life when a fiberglass boat sank in Istanbul on June 3, 2018, alive.

Seeking support from volunteers who assist village schools, İğrek contacted Meryem Elek, the principal of Yolaşan Village Primary School in Van's Gürpınar district, and conveyed his request to establish a library at the school in his friend's name.

After obtaining the necessary permits from the Directorate of National Education, İğrek began the work and transformed an unused section of the school into the "Onur Can Özcan Library" for musician Onur Can Özcan.

'I AM EXPERIENCING MIXED EMOTIONS'

Explaining that they would keep his friend's memory alive here, İğrek stated, "I am experiencing very mixed emotions today. I don't know what to do. This is the first time I have been involved in such a beautiful event. I am very excited. It is very meaningful for us and for the students. Yolaşan village is now a part of our story. Onur Can's name will now live on here. Our hearts will always be here," he said.
