Events taking place at the Atatürk Cultural Center in April have been announced

At the AKM Theater Hall, while the plays 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Centennial Epic: Fire', and 'This is a Legend: Sarah Bernhardt' will be staged, the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will perform the opera 'Carmen' and the ballet 'Giselle'.

World-renowned conductors and artists will continue to be guests at the IDSO's classic Friday concerts.

HAYROLA KARYOLA - METİN ZAKOĞLU

APRIL 2 - 21.00 - APRIL 17 - 21.00 - AKM MULTIPURPOSE HALL

The play 'Hayrola Karyola', written by master author Ferhan Şensoy and which once received great attention at Ortaoyuncular, is being prepared to be staged again after 22 years.

The play, directed by Metin Zakoğlu and starring him alongside Şebnem Köstem, will meet the audience at the AKM Multipurpose Hall on April 2 and 17. The play, which focuses on the funny adventures of a married couple and another couple about to get married, addresses current and economic issues.

WINTERREISE - ISTANBUL STATE OPERA AND BALET - MDT ISTANBUL

APRIL 2 - 20.30 - AKM THEATER HALL

'Winterreise' (Winter Journey), a 24-piece poetry series composed for voice and piano by Austrian composer Franz Schubert and written by German poet Wilhelm Müller, is brought to the stage with the interpretation of the Modern Dance Ensemble Istanbul.

In the work, which tells of a dramatic journey that begins with the poet realizing that his lover has fallen in love with someone else; Deniz Özaydın, Evrim Akyay, Emre Karaca, Huri Murphy, İsmet Köroğlu, Mert Öztekin, and Tuğçe Göncü serve as choreographers. The libretto and direction of the work belong to Mert Öztekin.

CARMEN - ISTANBUL STATE OPERA AND BALLET

The 'Carmen' opera, to be staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, will meet the audience at the Atatürk Cultural Center Türk Telekom Opera Hall on April 3, 6, 13, and 18. One of the world's most famous operas, the work of French composer Georges Bizet, Carmen, was first staged in Paris in 1875.

In the Carmen opera, directed by Italian director Vincenzo Grisostomi Travaglini, the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra will be conducted alternately by İbrahim Yazıcı and Zdravko Lazarov. The set design of the work belongs to Zeki Sarayoğlu, costume design to Ayşegül Alev and Gizem Betil, choreography to Ayşem Sunal Savaşkurt, lighting design to Giovanni Pirandello, and dramaturgy to Ravivaddhana Monipong Sisowath. Set in the 1830s in the Spanish city of Seville, the story is shaped around the life of the young gypsy girl Carmen, the protagonist of the opera.

GISELLE - ISTANBUL STATE OPERA AND BALLET

The 'Giselle' ballet, which has been watched with great interest at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall since the beginning of the season, will reunite with art lovers on April 4. 'Giselle', whose subject is taken from the Legend of the Wilis described by German poet Heinrich Heine in his book 'On Germany', is considered one of the most important works of ballet with the choreography of Jean Coralli-Jules Perrot-Marius Petipa set to the music of French composer Adolphe Adam (1803-1856).

The 'Giselle' ballet, which deals with rural life and the extraordinary world together, emphasizes the sublimity of love and the indispensability of passion, and is full of supernatural elements, tells the tragic and romantic story of a young and beautiful, yet shy peasant girl named Giselle who loves to dance, and Count Albrecht, who introduces himself to her as a farmer named 'Loys' and is madly in love with Giselle.

ISTANBUL FOLK SONGS - ISTANBUL STATE TURKISH MUSIC ENSEMBLE

The Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble will be on stage for the 'Istanbul Folk Songs' concert, inspired by the rich heritage of Turkish music, with unique folk songs reflecting the spirit of Istanbul. Under the leadership of artistic director Selim Güler, the ensemble will perform a special repertoire reflecting Istanbul's cultural diversity and rich musical texture on Thursday, April 4, at 20.30 in the AKM Multipurpose Hall.

CENTENNIAL EPIC ‘FIRE’ - ANKARA STATE THEATER

Centennial Epic 'Fire', to be staged by the Ankara State Theater, written by Haluk Özenç and directed by Barış Erdenk, will meet the audience on April 5-6-7.

The play is about the resistance of a people struggling with hunger, poverty, and captivity on Anatolian lands. The play, which gives a message of unity and solidarity to the nation against those who intend to divide the homeland, is brought to the stage with a wide cast of characters ranging from Mustafa Kemal Pasha to Kazım Pasha, from the British Admiral to the Greek Nurse.

ISTANBUL STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA DENİZBANK CONCERTS - BAROQUE WEEK

APRIL 5 - 20.30 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL

The Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra will host world-renowned recorder virtuoso Maurice Steger as conductor and soloist in the Baroque Week concert. In this week's program of the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, which will meet music lovers at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall on Friday, April 5, at 20.30, a wide repertoire will be presented from leading composers of the Baroque period, from F.J. Haydn to C.I. Monza, from G. Finger to J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart.

MAGIC LAMP - FAMILY AND CHILDREN

The play titled 'Magic Lamp', adapted by blending Danish author Andersen's story 'Thumbelina' with 'Aladdin's Magic Lamp', will meet its young audience at the AKM Multipurpose Hall on April 6-7-20-22. The play is about the adventure that begins with Hacivat asking Karagöz to clean a lamp, not knowing it is magic.

NIGEL KENNEDY - HEART AND SOUL

APRIL 7 - 21.00 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL

Nigel Kennedy, known as the owner of the world's best-selling classical music album, who entered the Guinness Book of Records with Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons' album, will take the stage at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall on Sunday, April 7, at 21.00 with his 'Heart and Soul' concert. Kennedy, who is also a composer, violin virtuoso, orchestra conductor, and festival curator, gives concerts that make a splash by bringing together different musical genres.

In his Istanbul program, he will present popular pieces for violin and cello by Krzysztof Komeda and Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as his own original compositions, in addition to Bach's works. Kennedy's cellist partner Beata Urbanek-Kalinowska will also be on stage at the concert. The concert, which will take place with the participation of only two musicians accompanied by the violin and cello representing the heart and soul, will offer the audience a unique musical experience.

Drawing its source from Anatolia's thousands of years of mythological and cultural history, Fire of Anatolia continues to meet art lovers at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall with its original production containing 3000 folk dance figures and folk music compiled from different regions. The project, which bears the signature of Mustafa Erdoğan, aims to introduce the fire of Anatolia's thousands of years of cultural and historical mosaic, blended with peace, to the whole world.

THE TIME REGULATION INSTITUTE

APRIL 11 - 20.30 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's immortal work 'The Time Regulation Institute', which oscillates between the poles of East and West, old and new, traditional and modern, will meet the audience at the Türk Telekom Opera Hall on April 11 as a contemporary adaptation where cinema and theater are intertwined, with an acting feast in which Serkan Keskin takes on dozens of guises and under the direction of Serdar Biliş.

STARS OF THE FUTURE - ISTANBUL STATE OPERA AND BALLET

APRIL 12 - 20.00 - TÜRK TELEKOM OPERA HALL

'Stars of the Future', which will be held at the Türk Telekom Opera Hall on April 12 at 20.00, will host the performances of young artists who are receiving conservatory education or are recent graduates from all over Turkey.

10 talents selected from 73 young people will perform distinguished works of the opera repertoire accompanied by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. This event is held regularly every year to support the careers of young artists.

THE MAN WHO WANTS TO MEET THE SUN - ISTANBUL STATE THEATER

The Istanbul State Theater will stage the children's play 'The Snowman Who Wants to Meet the Sun' at the AKM Theater Hall on April 12-13 at 15.00. Directed by Elif Erdal, the play, which deals with generosity, love, friendship, sharing, hope, and sincerity, will feature Tolga Kortunay, Asena Hotamış, Berk Yaparel, Zeynep Kızıltan Şıkyıldız, Su Lara Aslan, Tuğba Ülgen, Cihan Akyürek, Pelin Köksal, Onur Camcı, and Dinçer Simsar on stage.

The play 'Richard', written and directed by Okan Bayülgen, will meet art lovers at the AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall on April 14 at 20.00. Bayülgen opens Shakespeare's dramatization of Richard to discussion. While discussing being a foreigner, becoming lonely, and becoming savage, an imaginary theater troupe performs Shakespeare's Richard III again.

FIRE OF ANATOLIA - SPARK CHILDREN'S MUSICAL

In this show, which children, young people, and families can enjoy together, it will enable children to meet art on a small scale and blend their perspectives on the world with art.

Written by author John Murrell and directed by Hakan Altıner, the play will offer the audience an unforgettable experience with the performances of Dilek Türker and Tayfun Yılmaz in the lead roles. The Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra will celebrate 'April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day' with a special concert at the Türk Telekom Opera Hall on Friday, April 19, at 20.00. The orchestra, under the direction of conductor Howard Griffiths, will be accompanied by narrator Eylem Yıldız and percussion artist Burhan Öçal. Howard Griffiths' work titled 'The Magic Watermelon' will stand out in the program.

This work is about a magical creature trapped inside a watermelon searching for instruments to gain its freedom.

THE BEATLES AND CINDERELLA MUSICAL - CUBAN CHILDREN'S THEATER COMPANY 'LITTLE BEEHIVE' 'LA COLMENITA'

'The Beatles and Cinderella Musical', written by Carlos Alberto -Tin- Cremata Malberti, will be staged at the AKM Theater Hall on Sunday, April 21. The story is told by four little mice living in the basement of Cinderella's house. The mice perform various children's stories in their own way with their group they call 'The Beatles'.

When they are attacked by the grumpy cat 'Carrier', they sing the song 'Help!', and when the postman Mr. Jude and Fairy Godmother Mary, who bring an invitation to Cinderella from the palace, arrive, they sing the legendary song 'Let it Be'. In this fun musical, the songs of the Liverpool Four are brought to life with the interpretation of Cuban children.

The cast includes names such as Sofía Alejandra Viñas Rodríguez, Abel Gutiérrez Febles, and Valeria Savchenko Soto.

EAST BLACK SEA ENSEMBLE OUR FOLK SONGS FROM ORDU TO ARTVİN - ISTANBUL STATE TURKISH FOLK MUSIC CHOIR

The Istanbul State Turkish Folk Music Choir will meet the audience with its concert titled 'East Black Sea Ensemble Our Folk Songs from Ordu to Artvin' at the AKM Multipurpose Hall on April 24 at 19.00. In the concert, where Savaş Karaman undertook the artistic direction, soloists Savaş Karaman, Mustafa Gökay Ferah, and Rıza Can Özel will be on stage. Kenan Elmas will be on the kaval, Alper Uğurlar on the bass guitar, Şehmus Fidan on the guitar, and Harun Koç in the rhythm section.

The 'Romeo and Juliet' play, realized in cooperation with the Turkish State Theaters and the Greece Athens Concert Hall Megaron, will be staged at the AKM Theater Hall on April 25-26-27-28.

William Shakespeare's classic work, blended with love, betrayal, friendship, and tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, will be staged this time by Turkish and Greek artists. In the international production directed by Lefteris Giovanidis, four artists and one lighting director from the State Theaters and one composer from the Presidential Symphony Orchestra will take part. The cast of 'Romeo and Juliet' includes names such as Roula Pateraki, Calliope Chaska, Alp Ünsal, Eray Eserol, Nikos Karathanos, Maria Diakopanagiotou, and Dimitris Charalampoboulos.

GİRESUN WITH FOLK SONGS - ISTANBUL STATE TURKISH FOLK MUSIC CHOIR

Savaş Karaman, Elif Buse Doğan, and İbrahim Can will accompany the Istanbul State Turkish Folk Music Choir as soloists in the 'Giresun with Folk Songs' concert. 'ORNAMENT' EXHIBITION - DEDICATED TO MARCH 8 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

The exhibition titled 'Ornament', which will be held at the AKM Gallery between March 7 and April 12, 2024, was prepared specifically for March 8 International Women's Day. Focusing on women's role in society, the processes of forming their identities, and the struggle of working women who challenge patriarchal norms, the exhibition, which includes works from different art disciplines that address the dimension of meaning in the female face, aims to offer a surprising experience by focusing on the balance between men and women, women's place in society, and addressing the concept of woman from different angles.
