Everest Publishing removes Azra Kohen from author list

Author Azra Kohen targeted Palestinians struggling for survival under Israel's heavy attacks with the words, "They put the children in the bomb zone to film videos." Everest Publishing, which publishes Kohen's books, issued a statement saying, "We would like the public to know that no one who legitimizes or praises this great crime against humanity can remain within our publishing group."

The comments made by Azra Kohen, author of the book series adapted into the TV show 'Fi', 'Çi', 'Pi', following Israel's bombing of the Tel al-Sultan refugee camp in western Rafah on Sunday night—which burned 45 Palestinians, mostly women and children, to death in their tents—have drawn public backlash.

Following the controversial remarks, Everest Publishing removed Kohen from its author list.

In response to a follower who criticized her for not posting a condemnation regarding Israel's bombing of tents where civilians were staying in Rafah, Kohen wrote the following:

"I wish for the disappearance of anyone who has the capacity to take their own child to a place where a bomb is announced to be dropped 3 hours in advance via megaphone and where people are loudly warned, sit them down in the spot where the bomb will be dropped, and then go to the corner to film it! And I pray every day for those children to be saved, to be rescued from those disgusting creatures who put them in the bomb zone to film videos. No one who cannot protect their child and uses them as bait deserves to live!"

'THIS SITUATION IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY'

Everest Publishing, which publishes Azra Kohen's books, removed Kohen from its author list and took her books off its website.

In a statement on its social media account, the publisher said, "We condemn the genocide being carried out against the Palestinian people. This situation, which is being inflicted upon the entire Palestinian people, especially children and women, with the most brutal weapons, is a crime against humanity. We believe that all our authors share the same view as us, without the slightest 'but' or 'however.' In this regard, we would like the public to know that no one who legitimizes or praises this great crime against humanity can remain within our publishing group."
