February program for Beyoğlu Cinema announced

Restored by IBB Heritage and brought to the city with programs prepared by IBB Culture, the Beyoğlu Cinema will bring film lovers together in February with concepts including “Director of the Month,” “World Cinema,” “Theme of the Month,” “Altyazı Picks,” “Cinema Talks for the Curious,” “Tuesday Documentaries,” “Winter Films,” “Children’s Matinee,” “Cinema Seminars,” “Recent Independent Turkish Cinema,” and “Short Film and Student Film Selections.”

In the free programs prepared by IBB Culture, this month’s “Director of the Month” series, held in collaboration with SİYAD, will feature screenings of director Ömer Kavur’s films: “Night Journey,” “Yusuf and Kenan,” “The Secret Face,” and “Motherland Hotel.”

FILM ADAPTATIONS TO BE SCREENED

In the “Theme of the Month” series, organized in collaboration with the Film Directors Association, literary adaptations in Turkish cinema will be screened this month, followed by discussions.

The film “Four-Cornered Triangle” will be screened with the participation of director Mehmet Güreli and moderated by Görkem Yeltan; “But Müzeyyen, That’s a Deep Passion” with director Çiğdem Vitrinel and author İlhami Algöl, moderated by Pelin Batu; and “Fog and Night” with director Turgut Yasalar and author Ahmet Ümit, moderated by Eren Danışman. 

“Cinema Talks for the Curious” will feature discussions on “Women’s Cinema in Turkey” with Hülya Tanrıöver, “Debates on Festival Films vs. Box Office Films” with Ece Vitrinel, “New Developments in Cinema: An Overview of Digital Platforms” with Şehnaz Uğur, and “Where Are Those Old Cinemas: The Changing Landscape of Film Viewing Spaces and Environments” with Aydın Çam.

TUESDAY DOCUMENTARIES

The “Tuesday Documentaries” series will feature Hayriye Savaşçıoğlu’s “Letters Unopened for a Century,” Kerem Soyyılmaz’s “Searching for Rodakis,” Sevinç Yeşiltaş’s “Wise Mother Mevlüde Genç,” and Müjgan Yıldırım’s “The Course of the Shadow” throughout February.

The “Children’s Matinee” will feature “My Fairy Troublemaker,” “Elemental,” “DC League of Super-Pets,” and “Ron’s Gone Wrong.” The “Winter Films” program, prepared by Kültür AŞ, will include Reha Erdem’s “Kosmos,” Ingmar Bergman’s “Winter Light,” and Ruben Östlund’s “Force Majeure.” Short films to be shown in the “Winter Films” series include “Excommunication,” “Beder,” “International Departures,” “Coal,” and “Humidity.”

One of the new programs in February, “Recent Independent Turkish Cinema,” held in collaboration with SEYAP, will feature film screenings and discussions. The program includes Ali Vatansever’s “Saf,” Tunç Şahin’s “Mixed Tape,” Nisan Dağ’s “When I’m Done Dying,” and Ceylan Özgün Özçelik’s “15+ Letters from Prison.”

Another new program for February is the “Short Film and Student Film Selections.” The “Short Film Selection” will feature “Sheep,” “Syrian Cosmonaut,” and “Kadıköy’s Best Fortune Teller,” while the “Student Film Selection” will present “Together Forever,” “Hysteria,” “Who Are You,” “Tempus,” “Spinach,” “The Longest Minute,” “The Last Day of Friendships,” “Face to Face,” and “Before Evening Prayer.”

WORLD CINEMA: HUNGARY

The guest of “World Cinema” in February is Hungary. As part of the Turkish-Hungarian Year and in collaboration with the Hungarian Cultural Center, the “World Cinema: Hungary” program will feature “The Hungarians,” “The Son of the White Mare,” “The Red and the White,” “Diary for My Children,” and “My 20th Century.”

IN MEMORY OF YAŞAR KEMAL

Beyoğlu Cinema commemorates the master author Yaşar Kemal on the ninth anniversary of his passing. Following the screening of the documentary “The Legend of Yaşar Kemal” on Wednesday, February 28, at 15:00, a discussion will be held with director Aydın Orak, moderated by Feride Çetin.
