Funeral arrangements for Ahmet Telli announced

The funeral arrangements for Ahmet Telli, one of the prominent figures of Turkish poetry, have been announced. A memorial ceremony will be held for Telli in Ankara on July 12.

According to the shared schedule, the ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM at the Chamber of Civil Engineers building on Necatibey Street. Telli's funeral will be laid to rest at Karşıyaka Cemetery following the funeral prayer to be held at the time of the afternoon prayer.

WHO IS AHMET TELLİ?

Regarded as one of the leading representatives of social realist poetry, Ahmet Telli left a mark on the literary world with his unique voice that wove together themes of sorrow, rebellion, love, and resistance in his poems.

Born on December 2, 1946, in the Eskipazar district of Çankırı, Telli worked as a village teacher following his education at teacher training schools. A graduate of the Gazi Education Institute, Telli served as a Turkish and literature teacher in Kastamonu, İnebolu, Doğanyurt, Kırıkkale, and Ankara.

Arrested and removed from his post during the martial law period in 1981, Telli worked in publishing, editing, and bookselling following the legal process. The poet, who returned to teaching by court order in 1993, later retired.

Ahmet Telli, whose first poem was published in 1961, authored works including "Yangın Yılları" (Years of Fire), "Hüznün İsyan Olur" (Sorrow Becomes Rebellion), "Dövüşen Anlatsın" (Let the Fighters Tell), "Saklı Kalan" (What Remained Hidden), "Su Çürüdü" (The Water Decayed), "Belki Yine Gelirim" (Maybe I'll Come Again), "Nida" (Call), and "Veda Divanı" (Divan of Farewell). Telli was deemed worthy of numerous awards, including the Ömer Faruk Toprak Poetry Award, the Yazko Poetry Encouragement Award, the Nevzat Üstün Poetry Achievement Award, the Golden Orange Poetry Award, and the PEN Turkey Poetry Award.
