Funeral arrangements for author Selim İleri announced

The funeral arrangements for author Selim İleri, who has passed away, have been announced. It has been learned that İleri will be laid to rest in the family plot at Sahrayıcedit Cemetery.

Selim İleri (75), a prominent figure in Turkish literature, author, screenwriter, and critic who had been ill for some time, passed away in Istanbul in the evening hours.

A ceremony will be held for İleri at the Atatürk Cultural Center on Friday, January 10, at 10:30 AM.

Following the ceremony, İleri's funeral will be laid to rest in the family plot at Sahrayıcedit Cemetery after the funeral prayer at Vaniköy Mosque at noon.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy spoke with İleri's family to convey his condolences and stated that they are ready to do whatever is necessary.

WHO IS SELİM İLERİ?

İleri was awarded the title of "State Artist" in 1998 and was deemed worthy of the Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award in 2012.

Since the 1970s, Selim İleri has been one of the prolific pens of contemporary Turkish literature, producing high-quality works in various literary genres such as novels, short stories, poetry, essays, theater, memoirs, and research.

In addition to the works he contributed to the literary world, İleri wrote over 20 screenplays and appeared with his research and critical articles in many newspapers and magazines, including Yeni Ufuklar, Yeni Dergi, Papirüs, Varlık, Türk Dili, Politika, Dünya, Milliyet, Milliyet Sanat, Gösteri, and Cumhuriyet.

İleri, who also worked as a columnist, prepared series of articles. He presented culture and arts programs on radio and television.
