Şerif Gören has passed away at the age of 80.

WHO IS ŞERİF GÖREN?

Gören directed many of our classic films, most notably the Palme d'Or-winning 'Yol', written by Yılmaz Güney, as well as 'Kurbağalar', 'Yılanların Gücü', 'Sen Türkülerini Söyle', 'Almanya Acı Vatan', 'Endişe', 'Deprem', 'Katırcılar', 'Amerikalı', 'Derman', 'Gelincik', 'On Kadın', 'Nehir', 'Tomruk', 'Firar', and 'Herhangi Bir Kadın'.

Gören, who last directed the film 'Ay Büyürken Uyuyamam' in 2011, was known for his ability to address social issues in cinema while they were still fresh. For this reason, he became one of the pioneers of social realism. He was also the first director to challenge the military in cinema during a period when the effects of the September 12 military coup were still being felt, with his film 'Sen Türkülerini Söyle'.
