Zekeriya Metin, a teacher in the Şarkışla district of Sivas, began practicing the art of string art 8 years ago to overcome his computer addiction. Dedicating his time to string art instead of the computer, Zekeriya Metin announced that he has created over 500 pieces.

''I BECAME A STRING ART ENTHUSIAST''

Zekeriya Metin, who has been teaching for 30 years, said, "I was born in Germany in 1970. I am the child of an expatriate father. I am a literature teacher. I am in my 30th year of the profession. I started the art of string art during a difficult period in my life. I had a very serious case of computer addiction, which is the greatest illness of our age. After starting string art, I saw that there could be a 'good' kind of addiction. I got rid of my computer addiction and became a string art enthusiast."

''OUR TRAINEES WHO USED ANTIDEPRESSANTS QUIT THEM''

Stating that he has made great progress in 8 years, Metin said, "I don't know how many I have made to date, but I can say it is well over 500. I gave courses at the Public Education Center twice. During that process, we had trainees who had psychological problems and were using antidepressants. They quit them along with this art. I can say that this art is good for everything. You set a goal for yourself. You say you will quit after reaching the level where you can make a certain piece. After making that piece, another one emerges. You say, 'I must make this one too.' It is like swimming in an endless ocean. No matter how far you go, there is no end to it."

WHAT IS STRING ART?

String art is the creation of various patterns and motifs by driving nails into a wooden board in a specific model and sequence, and then passing thread or wire through these nails.
