In Istanbul's Bahçeşehir district, citizens are reacting to the court's decision to grant a good conduct reduction to İbrahim Keloğlan, who kicked and killed a cat named Eros, reducing his sentence from 3 years to 2 years and 6 months, and allowing him to be tried without arrest.

Following the killing of Eros the cat, the need for an end to impunity for crimes committed against animals in Turkey and the necessity for a comprehensive animal rights law have once again come to the forefront.

Turkey's popular domestic TV series Kızılcık Şerbeti also addressed the issue in the latest episode that aired on Friday.

In a scene that referenced the defense attorney's statement for İbrahim Keloğlan—who received a 2-year-6-month sentence and is being tried without arrest—that Eros was "alone," the line “To those who say he was alone for animals, say he is not alone, I am here!” was included.
