May 1st call from writers and artists: 'The restrictive stance must be ended'
64 writers and artists have issued a declaration against the continued ban on celebrating May 1st in Taksim, despite the Constitutional Court's ruling of a violation. The artists stated, "A holiday celebrated in freedom will be good for our country. The persistently maintained restrictive stance must be ended immediately."

A written statement has been issued by 64 writers and artists, including names such as Orhan Pamuk, Ahmet Ümit, and Haydar Ergülen, against the decision to ban the celebration of May 1st in Taksim Square, which holds historical significance for the labor struggle.
In the statement, the artists requested that the insistence on banning May 1st celebrations in Taksim be abandoned.
'THE RESTRICTIVE STANCE MUST BE ENDED IMMEDIATELY'
The text, which emphasizes that Taksim is the square for May 1st, stated: "No ban can be strong enough to erase this truth from memory. As writers and artists, our call is: The restrictive stance, which is persistently maintained despite the Constitutional Court's assessment that Taksim Square represents not only the solidarity of laborers but also their collective memory on the International Workers' Day of Unity, Struggle, and Solidarity, and despite its ruling of a violation regarding the ban, must be ended immediately. A holiday celebrated in freedom will be good for our country."
